Heritage
The Spanish city of Valencia was one of the most important trading ports in the Mediterranean and was heavily influenced by the silk trade. The Silk Exchange Market or “La Lonja de la Seda” was the financial centre of the city, where the silk merchants would meet and sign deals. Built between 1482 and 1548, the Silk Exchange Market illustrates the power and wealth of the mercantile city of that time and is a masterpiece of the Mediterranean Gothic civil architecture.
