Silk has been produced in Konavle for centuries. It was always produced for individual needs with no developed industry in the region. Silk threads were made for wedding dresses, embroideries and belts. The threads were used to tie up umbilical cords of the newborns and band hands and legs of the dead. The silk production in Konavle is still practised in various households, who keep the artesanal tradition alive.
