At ITB Berlin 2012, UNWTO will again be hosting a range of activities designed to raise the profile of the Silk Road at the world's leading travel trade show:

UNWTO Silk Road Ministers’ Meeting at ITB Berlin

11.00-12.30 Wednesday 7 March 2012, at ‘Berlin’ Room at Hall 7.3

At ITB 2012, UNWTO, in collaboration with ITB, will again bring together Ministers from across the Silk Road to address key issues and put forward strategies for the coming year at the Silk Road Ministers’ Meeting. At this year’s edition, UNWTO will launch its global Silk Road Action Plan for Tourism 2012/2013, and there will be presentations by UNESCO, the European Institute of Cultural Routes and other partner institutions. Ministers will be encouraged to share their achievements on the Silk Road and plans for the coming year.

Flavours of the Silk Road – VIP Walk at ITB Berlin

12.30-13.30 Wednesday 7 March 2012, at selected exhibitors’ stands (10 in total)

Following the success of last year, UNWTO will again be organising a VIP Walk on the Silk Road with UNWTO Secretary-General Mr Taleb Rifai and ITB Berlin management to celebrate the rich gastronomic heritage of the Silk Road. The VIP delegation will visit 10 stands at ITB, sampling the national cuisine of each of these distinct Silk Road destinations. The event attracted significant media attention last year and this year will also serve to promote the upcoming conference ‘Flavours of the Silk Road’ due to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan in mid-September 2012.

UNWTO Tour Operators’ Forum on the Silk Road - Creating a Stronger Business Environment for Growth

11.00-13.00, Thursday 8 March 2012, Palais Room (between Halls 19 & 20)

The UNWTO Tour Operators’ Forum on the Silk Road will bring together both outbound and inbound tour operators to discuss the challenges and opportunities of doing business on the Silk Road. The programme will include a seminar with presentations from a variety of tour operators experienced in buying and selling Silk Road destinations. Conclusions and recommendations from this forum will be included in the UNWTO Silk Road Action Plan 2012/2013.

The Silk Road at ITB Travel Raffle 2012

Throughout 10-11 March, Hall 4.1

As part of the promotional activities at ITB Berlin, UNWTO Silk Road destinations will be promoted in the ITB Travel Raffle, a consumer targeted competition promoted to over 70,000 general public visiting ITB. Participants enter by submitting their entrance ticket at Hall 4.1 and the raffle will be drawn six times during colourful stage performances held on 10-11 March. Last year over 4,500 public visitors participated in the competition.
